RE: riot grrls: msg#00070culture.studies.general
Kristen Schilt, a doctoral student in Sociology at UCLA has done some really good work on Riot Grrl. I'm not sure if her articles have come out yet, but they are as follows: "'A Little Too Ironic': The Appropriation and Packaging of Radical Feminism by the New Angry Women in Rock," Journal of Popular Music and Society. Forthcoming. "Riot Grrrl Is: Contestations over Meaning in Music Scene," The Music Scenes Anthology, (edited by Andy Bennett and Richard Peterson). Forthcoming. "I'll Resist with Every Inch and Every Breath: Girls and Zine Making as a Form of Resistance," Youth and Society: Forthcoming. It may be worth getting in touch with her if you haven't already, she's on this list. Ps. Hey Kristen! Whassup?!
