w/disabilities in LAUSD

For those of you in Southern California, a film I made called GOING TO
SCHOOL ~ IR A LA ESCUELA (cc) will be broadcast tonight (10/22) on KCET
(channel 28) at 10pm. This is a film for the entire community... please
post and share this message. Thanks, Richard

A stirring and uplifting documentary about inclusion, special education
services in Los Angeles and the determination of parents to make sure
their children receive a quality education. The film gives insight into
the purpose of the I.D.E.A. (Individuals with Disabilities Education
Act) and expands our understanding of what diversity means.

?GOING TO SCHOOL ~ IR A LA ESCUELA shows how mothers of disabled
children understand that education is critical to the success of their
children. They have the I.D.E.A. to fight with. The film beautifully
illustrates how students value their disabled peers as friends and
mentors, as they plan for their futures as integrated members of their
society. Parents, disabled children, educators and policy makers should
see this film.?
--The Honorable Judith E. Heumann, Former Asst. Secretary, Office of
Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, U.S. Dept. of Education/
& --Jorge H. Pineda, Accountant, National Council on Independent Living

?This documentary should serve as a catalyst for critical reflection on
the state of our schools and their willingness to serve all children
equally.?
--June Downing, Professor of Special Education, Cal State University
Northridge
