Re: studies of public sphere and radical democracy?: msg#00054culture.studies.general
There are a number of careful applications of Laclau and Mouffe's Hegemony and Socialist Strategy in D.Howarth, A. Norval and Y. Stavrakakis (eds.) (2000) _Discourse Theory and Political Analaysis_ Manchester University Press. Good book-length applications can be found in Anna Marie Smith (1994) _New Right Discourse on Race and Sexuality_ Cambridge UP; and Aletta Norval (1996) _Deconstructing Apartheid Discourse_ Verso Oscar Reyes ------------------------------------------------------Subject: Re: studies of public sphere and radical democracy? From: "Ranu Samantrai" Date: Sun, 20 Oct 2002 10:55:13 -0700 X-Message-Number: 1 I'm teaching Habermas's _Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere_ and Laclau and Mouffe's _Hegemony and Socialist Strategy_ to graduate students next semester. In each case I need a text that applies the theory. For instance, with the Habermas I used to teach Felski's _Beyond Feminist Aesthetics_, but now it is out of print. Books on 20th century/contemporary social movements would be ideal, but I would be grateful for all suggestions.
