The Bastora Consumer Cell, in a press note issued here, states that when some residents spoke to the authorities about this anomaly the explanation given was that parts of Bastora that receive normal water supply are receiving water from a direct line. And the parts that are receiving poor water supply are connected to an 'indirect line. Bastora residents find is answer amazing, says the press note. Bastora has been receiving irregular water supply for the third consecutive year. Numerous complaints have been filed with the authorities both in the past and at present but to no avail. Residents of Bastora feel that they should be given a reduction in water tariff for non-supply of water. They resent the fact that they are paying the PWD for the supply of air through pipelines. The Bastora Consumer Cell, states that, it finds itself besieged with the problem of non-supply of water. The Cell alleged that the PWD authorities have been very elusive as they do not keep their appointments with the consumer Cell to discuss the water supply problem. The residents of Bastora consider the water supply by tankers is similar to the robbing of Peter to pay Paul. "The real reason for non-supply of water is mismanagement of water on purpose to make certain vested interest earn quick gains," the Cell alleged. "The authorities do not wish to meet members of the public to discuss this problem as they are unable to give clear cut answers." "We are convinced that these problems affecting the consumers can only be solved with the authorities taking the public in to confidence but this will put an end to the greasing of palms of the authorities for special favours," Bastora Consumer Cell added. ----------------------------------- Herald 28/4/03 page 3 ----------------------------------- ======================================= GOA DESC RESOURCE CENTRE Documentation + Education + Solidarity 11 Liberty Apts., Feira Alta, Mapusa, Goa 403 507 Tel: 2252660 mailto:goadesc-0VrrOzQoB60xpvK4C0GaPQ@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx website: www.goadesc.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Working On Issues Of Development & Democracy ======================================= |
