Today, April 27 is Divine Mercy Sunday. On August 4, 2002, Pope John Paul II 
authorized a plenary indulgence for Catholics who observe the precepts on 
Divine Mercy Sunday: www.thedivinemercy.org and www.marian.org

Divine Mercy Sunday 2003 will be observed this year throughout the world. 
Here at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 
Fourth & Michigan Ave. NE, Washington, D. C. (Metro Station: Brookland -- 
CUA) there will be Chanting of the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 2:00 PM, followed 
by Concelebrated Mass. Main Celebrant and Homilist: Rev. Daniel Havron, OFM. 

In the Philippines, everything nearly everything comes to a standstill at 
three o'clock. Fervent believers implore God's mercy, if only for a brief 
moment, and immerse themselves in His Passion -- particularly His abandonment 
at the moment of agony.

At Sister M. Faustina Kowalska's canonization ceremony on April 30, 2000, 
Pope John Paul also announced that the Second Sunday of Easter would be 
henceforth known as Divine Mercy Sunday.

Sister Faustina's diary reveals that this was willed by the Lord Jesus as 
early as October 26, 1934: 

"I am King of Mercy," He said. "I desire that this image be displayed in 
public on the first Sunday after Easter. That Sunday is the Feast of Mercy. 
Through the Word Incarnate I make know the bottomless depth of My mercy." (88)

God's Merciful Love is Everlasting. It is depicted in the Divine Mercy Image, 
with red and white rays of light radiating from Jesus' heart and the words: 

Jesus, I Trust in You.
