RELIANCE WLL LAUNCHED: Reliance Infocomm will change the face of mobile 
telephone with the launch of its Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) service 
across the country today, though Goa will have to wait for at least another 
week to join the revolution. The new service will use state-of-the-art Code 
Division Multiple Access technology to provide Indians with an economical 
alternative to relatively expensive cellular phone services. (GT)

TIGHT SECURITY FOR PM'S VISIT: The police in Goa, especially south Goa, is 
on its toes in view of the scheduled three-day sojourn of Prime Minister 
Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the State from tomorrow at Taj Exotica. While 
personnel of Special Protection Group and Rapid Action Force, who look 
after VVIP security, have already arrived, while the local police have 
started screening antecedents of Kashmiris conducting business in South Goa

TO TACKLE THREAT OF TERRORISM: "Goa's security graph has touched the most 
sensitive point, thanks to the alarm bells sounded by Mossad in Tel Aviv 
fearing an attack on the Israeli nationals indulging in New Year revelry, 
by Islamic terrorists owing allegiance to Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda

FISHING ACTIVITIES AT BENAULIM BANNED: All the operators of fishing vessels 
and traditional/motorized canoes are request not to pass through or carry 
out any fishing activity in the coastal water off Hotel Taj Exotica, 
Calvaddo, Benaulim, till 31 December, in view of the security arrangement 
for Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. (GT)

CYBER CAFÉ RAIDED: A police team raided a cyber café in Panjim on Christmas 
morning and picked up an Arab student for questioning. Several print-outs 
were also taken by the police team, before laving with the hapless looking

CORPSE SANS HEAD: A mutilated male corpse without the head was found lying 
near the railway gate at Bhawkai, Mayem, yesterday. The victim has been 
identified as Ricardo Coelho, a resident of Calvim, Aldona. (GT)

VILLAGERS GHERAO OFFICIALS: Irate villagers of Chiraband and Ponsamoll ward 
of Uguem in Sanguem who have water shortage in their areas for the past 
over 15 days now gheraoed executive and assistant engineers of division XX 
of water supply department, Sanguem yesterday. (GT)

YOUTH SHOULD CHANGE MINDSET: The Governor, Mr Kidar Nath Sahani, has said 
that Goan youth should change their mindset and stop running after white 
collar jobs but accept any type of work to lead a happy life. Mr Sahani was 
speaking at the Christmas-Eid Milan reception hosted by him and his wife, 
Ms Vimla Sahani, on the lawns of Raj Bhavan at Dona Paula on December 27. (NT)

RAIA GROUND: Work on the development of Raia panchayat sports complex will 
r-commence soon as the Rajya Sabha MP Eduardo Faleiro on Friday issued 
instructions to the District Collector to start the work, which was kept in 
abeyance due to the unseeming controversy over the naming of the sports 
complex after the MP. (H)

BENAULIM SARPANCH: Benaulim will finally have a new Sarpanch on New Year 
Day. The Director of Panchayats has convened a meeting of the village 
panchayat on January 1 to elect the new Sarpanch. On November 19 last 
Sarpanch Guilhermina alias Meena Leitao was ousted from office in a no 
trust motion. (H)

BEEF STALLS RAIDED: The Directorate of Animal Husbandry sleuths raided two 
beef stalls in Mapusa and seized illegal meat being sold there. (NT)

BEACH CLEANING: The exercise of collecting plastic and other waste 
materials from the beaches has commenced much to the relief of the tourists 
and shack owners. Once again the work of privatisation of beach cleaning 
along Goa's coastline has been awarded to different parties from 1 December 
on trial basis. (GT)

PANJIM LAD HURT: A 14-year-old lad, Gaurish Umesh Silimkhan, was knocked 
down by a speeding Tata Sumo near Four Pillars in Panjim on Thursday. (H)

MANDO FESTIVAL IN CHINCHINIM: The Chinchinim Mando Festival Committee will 
organise its 25th Mando festival on 11 January 2003 at the Chinchinim 
Church square at 6 pm. (GT)

ONE-ACT PLAY: Shenoi Goembab 125th anniversary celebrations committee is 
organizing all Goa Konkani one-act play competition as part of "Osmitai 
Vors" on January 31 and February 1. The entries along with script in 
prescribed format are invited by Prince Jacob and Agnelo (Borim), 
co-convenors on or before January 15. (H)

SOUND AND EXTORTION: "The New Year and Christmas celebrations revolve 
around the dances that are organised both by the hotels and the scores of 
event managers?The festive season also becomes regrettably an occasion for 
extortion for the police. The billion dollar question of whether or when a 
dance or festivity will be stopped just when the tempo is picking up

CURTORIM PHONE EXCHANGE: The Macazana village panchayat has urged the

villagers get all the facilities of a rural exchange. (H)

STORE ROOM GUTTED: A store room stocked with sanitary items, located near 
Don Bosco High School, Panjim, was charred on Thursday afternoon.

MARLON WEDS: Marlon Menezes, director of Goacom Insys, and Aldila Lobo tied 
the marital know yesterday. The nuptials were at the Bambolim Cross at 5.30 
pm, followed by the wedding reception at Cidade de Goa.
