GOA HERITAGE FESTIVAL 2002,
CAMPAL HERITAGE PRECINCT,
CAMPAL, PANAJI,
Wednesday 27 NOVEMBER 2002 10 A.M. TO 9.P.M.

The second day of the Festival will see Dr. Fatima Gracis speak
on Panjim, the capital town as she sees it in the last decades
of the Portuguese rule in Goa. This will be followed by a talk
on Environment and Law by Farhad Sorabjee, a noted lawyer
who practices in the High Court of Bombay in Bombay and Panaji
and has now decided to make Goa his home.

Architect Brinda Somaya will then deliver a slide-illustrated lecture
on the case study of the Cathedral Church and School, Mumbai.

Goan activist Shyam Verekar will speak after the lunch break on
Goencho Lokved in Konkani followed by conservation architect
Ketak Nachinolkar on the restoration of the Cross at Betim,
Bardez, Goa.

Noted culinary historian Maria da Lourdes Brav da Costa Rodrigues
will then speak on her thoughts on food. Ralph de Sousa,
Chairperson of the Goa Heritage Action Group will flag off
the second day's Open House Sessions.

Artisans and craftspeople will again showcase their skills
on the second day in between the academic sessions.

The second day's performances will begin with folk dances
performed by the Gavana Group. They will perform the mando,
phugdi and marcha da Fontainhas punctuated by recitation of poems
in Konkani by the Triveni Group.

This will be followed by a short concert by Carlos Monteiro
and his band and at 8.15 p.m. Kanta Gawde and his troupe
will perform folk dances from Veling, Mhardol and other parts of Goa.

The aim of the Festival is to generate better awareness
on Goan heritage, its problems and solutions and to make heritage
conservation a pleasurable activity shared by the entire Goan community.

The festival becomes a meeting ground for professionals,
heritage homeowners and heritage lovers to discuss problems
and solutions particular to heritage conservation in Goa.

The venue also becomes a meeting place for people of all ages
to come together for Goa and Goan heritage.
