The jam packed gathering of Goans at Willesden School Hall ,
North London was offered a rare and refreshing treat,in the form
of a Tiatr on Sunday 27th October 2002.

The Tiatr was staged by a group of young Goans ,calling themselves as the
Youth of Goa (UK ), and was written and directed by Lawrence Mascarenhas ,
hailing from Betalbatim in Salcette, Goa.

The show was a great success , with the tickets having been
sold out much in advance. Even the inclement weather of the day did not
dampen the
spirits of Goans nor deter them from attending the show. A few who had made
it,
braving the rain and the high -speed winds had to goUK back disappointed
for
want of tickets. It is to the credit of the organizers , that people were
seen remaining seated , much after the show was over, as if expecting some
more fare ! The downside of it , however was the delay in commencing the
show on time although one can fully appreciate and understand the
difficulties
faced by them in putting up such an event in a foreign land. However it is
hoped , that
they would lay a little more emphasis on this aspect , whilst organizing the
next stage.

The Tiatr named 'ASRO' meaning shelter , is set in
a Goan household. The story revolves around a respectable and elder
citizen , patrician Mr Caldeira , who suddenly finds himself abandoned by
his two prosperous sons ,in his attempt at securing a sum of Rs..5 lakhs
towards the heart operation of his only daughter . The play reaches its
climax
with the prodigality of his two sons.

Rosita Pereira and Jimmy Braganza who played the lead roles as the son
and the daughter in law, respectively, captivated the crowd by their superb
performance and melodious voices. They were ably backed by Cassey
Alphonso, who acted as the younger son, Estelle asthe only daughter ,
Ubaldo as the businessman friend and Lawrence as hapless father.
The comedy - trio of Santano,Judith Pacheco and Antonioexcelled in their
roles. The threesome kept the people in peals of laughter by their
wisecracks
and stage antics.
