Consumer and civic issues... raising some points

Copy of a letter to the consumer forum. Please support such initiatives
and share your ideas with them. Because of a lack of volunteer-power,
they particularly need people who are willing to put our energies where

Dear Sir,

I would be grateful if you could help to take up the
following issues:

* Improving bus transport passing through the village,
specially on the Saligao-Sangolda-Porvorim-Panjim route.

* Getting access to a list of all bus timings of buses passing
through Saligao.

* Stopping the dumping of mud in, and illegal conversions of,
fields in the village.

* Delivery of some letters in open condition.

* Access to documents indicating functioning of village
panchayat (annual statement of accounts, annual
administration report, budget estimates, development works
and other programmes proposed for the current and past three
financial years, proposal for fresh taxation and enhanced
taxation for the past three years).

* List of beneficiaries of various programmes of the government
in the panchayat and village.

* Copies of utilisation certificate in respect of developmental
works undertaken by the panchayat from the grants-in-aid or
panchayat funds.

* Proposals in the village panchayat for organising community
service, voluntary labour or mobilisation of the local people
for any specific work.

* Activities conducted and minutes of meetings of the panchayat
Supervisory Committees, Ward Development Committees and
Vigilance Committees.

* Possibility of deploying Right to Information (new act) to
find out information related to civic and consumer issues in

* Downloading and analysing electoral rolls of Saligao, in
particular the Saligao village area of the constituency of
the same name.

* Issue of non-issuance of bills by vendors, inspite of the
charging of VAT taxes and having 'all taxes inclusive'
pricing on the products.

* Widespread use of plastic bags by vendors in the village (and
sorroundings).

* Widespread dumping of plastic bottles by locals, tourists,
visitors passing through Saligao along various roadside
areas.

* Lack of signboards in the village.
