Friday Balcao the fortnightly discussion event
to be held on 9th December will focus on the
Knowledge Commission and its impact on 
the future of education in Goa.

The Goa Government has recently appointed
a Knowledge Commission to advise and make recommendations 
to the government on promoting excellence in the education system 
in Goa and to meet the knowledge challenges of the 21st century.

The Commission proposes to prepare a vision document for Goa
which will serve as a template for discussion in the State. There is
also a proposal to develop a website as an effective means of 
disseminating the documents of the Commission so that the public 
can respond with queries and suggestions.

The Commission will prepare the vision document through an
elaborate participatory process involving brain storming sessions
with senior educationists, principals of colleges, former directors
of education besides dialogues with different stakeholders such
as students, youth, academia, leaders of industry, trade union
leaders and the traditional occupations besides harnessing the
comments & suggestions of citizens and non-resident Goans
through postings on the Website.

How do we ensure a down-up participation in the deliberations 
of the Commission ? What steps can be taken to ensure that
viewpoints emerge from all the 11 talukas of Goa? How do we
get Gram Sabhas of the various village panchayats to discuss
and get local viewspoints on to the Commission website ?

What steps can be taken to ensure participation from PTA's of
Schools, HSS and Colleges ? How do perspectives on the basis 
of gender, disability and migration also get proper representation 
in the final report of the Commission ?

The Balcao discussion will cover these questions and
also evolve an agenda for action by citizens on the issue.

Friday Balcao will be from 4pm to 6pm
at the Goa Desc Resource Centre

Mapusa and is open to members of the public.
