Just a few thoughts about the film shooting in Saligao.

I agree with a couple of points made by Mario & Muriel. However, one must remember that everything has good & bad to it, there are disadvantages & advantages depending how one looks at it vis-a-vis the film shooting going on in Saligao.

I think in this instance, the noise & the inconvenience caused by being blocked on the road at that time of the night got most up in arms. It must have been very inconvenient for those around to rest, I can understand that. But noise & garbage has been there much before the time of our children & grandchildren, & our parents & us are not much the worse for wear. We tolerated everything including the whacking noise at Westend etc. the blaring of loudspeakers outside our bedrooms till the early hours of the morning, etc. everytime someone had a birthday or were celebrating some festival; the blast of fire crackers, & lived through it all. Perhaps we just have to "let go" at times & tolerate so that we can all be at peace some of the time if not all the time.

3. It brings in some more garbage,noise pollution blocking of roads.

Sorry to say this, but not all are concerned about garbage or burning the same in their own backyard. Some just throw it into the next compound if it is not inhabited. OR one can see where it has all been thrown, - check out the nallas, valleys & "vows" during the rainy season & even during the dry season.

4. It gets in the film culture in our vaddos.
5. Besides the films on TV screen villagers are now exposed to how films are made.

Well you've said it there. In our time we had no internet, no TV & wherever we got a chance to watch a film shooting, we did so but it didnt affect our sensibilities - it was something interesting to watch & be part of the glamour for a little while. Hey that's how I saw & met so many stars - Rekha, Jaya Badhuri, Amitabh Bachan, Amjad Khan - lucky me! Isnt that what the Film Festival recently held in Panjim was all about? Some entertainment, some glamour, some not (if you have read Remo's article), some revenue & at least the roads got down, the place got beautified ....I dont think this film shooting would affect our children in any way, they see worse on T.V. & the net if not supervised, so I guess it comes down to the adults' responsibilities finally as with everything else in this world today.

6. Our children are already accepting the fact that anything can be accepted in their village >without questioning the activities.

The opinion above answers that I guess & this particular activity (from Rico's description) & from the shooting I've seen often many years before doesnt need questioning And once again, it is the adults who should be involved.

7. Wonder if parents and school authorities have looked critically at activity related to film shooting >in the school premises and what culture this activity is bringing into the village.
8. Some time back film shooting was going on in the Church. It was stopped after some people >protested.

Here again, adults involvement isnt it? Any teacher, parent would or should be against the school's peaceful atmosphere & study hours being disrupted by such activities. Dito, the Church more because it is a sacred place. I've seen Hindi movies wherein the Church was the venue for the film shooting. I dont know if Saligao Church was involved.

And at some higher level, permission must have been granted by the authorities to have the film shot at Villa Figurerdo eh? Or at least I presume that adults were involved in this decision.

9. We do not know what the name of the film is going to be. We hope it is not going to distort >the image of Goa and Saligao further.

Ah, I just read Rico's latest mail - the entire film crew is moving out or has moved out by now so all can get back to their routine - clear minds & hearts & clear roads, peace will reign at last... & we have the name - The Hypochondriac - well well! There are many in this world; quite a number in Goa visiting Drs. because of this & a few in Saligao too. So no distortion, just plain fact of life & of this stress-filled world we live in.
