Yahoo loses French Appeal: msg#00278culture.people.interesting-people
Begin forwarded message: From: Joel Reidenberg <reidenberg@xxxxxxxxxxx> Date: August 23, 2004 3:14:16 PM EDT To: dave@xxxxxxxxxx, ip@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Yahoo loses French Appeal Dave, The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals just overturned the federal district court decision in favor of Yahoo on the French filtering case. Not surprisingly, the appellate court said that the lower court did not have personal jurisdiction over the French parties because they had insufficient contact with California. The decision does not address Yahoo's First Amendment claims. The significance is that Yahoo now does not have automatic immunity in the United States for its foreign activities. The decision is at: http://www.ca9.uscourts.gov/ca9/newopinions.nsf/D079531C495BC5E288256EF9 0055E54C/$file/0117424.pdf?openelement Regards, Joel ************************************** Joel R.
