Today there is an important article on page D1 of the Wall St. Journal about this. Most of the airlines are now finding a new source of revenue dong this. Most large suitcases, even those sold as part of 5-piece sets, are oversized by their definitions, so you are likely to get caught. They are also charging for a third suitcase being checked, but that charge may be less than the oversized charge, so it may be better to use two smaller ones than the large one. The limit in order not to be charged is 62 linear inches (add the three dimensions together). Even 63 inches will get charged. They point out that an expandable suitcase may qualify before expansion, but not after. Watch out! Read the article if you can. -- -- Bernard A.
