PACific DATA AWARDED UNIVERSITY OF IOWA LIBRARIES CONVERSION FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 12, 1998 Contact: Iris L. Hanney, 717-646-5302; ihanney-kj3SAyJu6V4@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Harold Way, 913-327-7557; haroldway-YDxpq3io04c@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Pocono Pines, PA - PACific DATA Conversion Corp. (PDCC) has been awarded a data conversion contract by the University of Iowa Libraries. The collection to be converted, "Traveling Culture: Circuit Chautauqua in the Twentieth Century", will become a part of the Library of Congress/Ameritech National Digital Library Program. The "Traveling Culture" collection is comprised of 9,600 fliers and promotional pamphlets as well as business records illuminating the commercial and financial side of cultural movements. The collection documents late nineteenth and early twentieth century American entertainment and education reflecting changes in popular, commercial, and political culture. The University of Iowa Libraries will provide the scanned images of this collection and PDCC will convert the material to machine-readable SGML following the DTD provided by the Library. Regarding this conversion, Iris L. Hanney, PDCC Vice-President, Sales & Marketing said: "This is an excellent example of the alliance between the library and outsourcing. The delicate imaging portion of the conversion will remain on property, while the data conversion will be shipped to a more cost- effective location. It is this teaming in the Library community that will make many more collections available." PDCC provides large scale data conversion services to clients in a wide variety of industries supporting electronic publishing, technical documentation, litigation support, SGML, XML and HTML formats, including TEI Lite, EAD and E-Bind DTD's. PDCC's production facilities in China and the Philippines provide highly qualified labor resources at competitive rates and are augmented by project management and telecommunications links in the U.S. Projects are custom developed for each specific client. PDCC is a subsidiary of SPI Technologies, Inc. National Sales Office 207 East Forest Drive, Box 396 Pocono Pines, PA 18350 717.646.5302 Phone 717.646.5317 Fax
