MINDSPEAK: Info on Benaqaab

Responding to Sanjay's request... here's some background info on Benaqaab:

The film, made by the Asian Women's Human Rights Council (AWHRC), in collaboration with Sangram, Sangli (Maharashtra) attempts to capture an ongoing dialogue between women on issues related to prostitution and HIV/AIDS; speaking in the context of globalisation in which women are being increasingly brutalised and all forms of violence are escalating and intensifying; stories of violence, survival and resistance. The stories are drawn from Izzat, a docu-report produced by AWHRC on a workshop held in Kolhapur, India on 22-24 March 1999 and conversations with women of VAMP, a collective of women in prostitution from Central India.

MINDSPEAK will screen Benaqaab on June 28, at 5pm.
