Choosing A Webhost:
A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to provide their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation. more...

Subject: the book of yo & NewCiv.org & misc

This is a reference for an upcoming archival post.
The book of yo is attached-
if you're reading on gmane, go to:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OurCultureOurCapitol/message/30
for the attachment.

Their web site is:

http://yoism.org

one other related discovery is http://newciv.org
it looks like it is from the early 90s, and it is--
(here's a link to the 1995 email that started it:
http://www.newciv.org/ncn/ncnet.html )
but they've been working on basically the same question as
OurCultureOurCapitol for that long-

here is something from their intro.
http://www.newciv.org/ncn/weare.html

I don't have any mind-shattering discoveries from there-
but some neat ones, and I may draw on their collection of
visionaries for assistance with some of the projects I'm
helping out with.

Two projects that stick in my mind:
http://www.globealive.com/
http://www.apprentice.org.uk/

I also saw that someone with a nbtsc address
(http://nbtsc.org) subscribed to the list (referrer logs?)
which is exciting to me because I found that group and sort
of so idealize what they do but somewhat despair of ever
being a part of what it seems they get to be a part of (that
is an exaggeration- I seem to have quite a lot of inspiring
encounters to keep me busy- yoism is one example--
real-life, face-time may be the difference. I do wonder what
it would be like to be at nbtsc. The community web site
http://community.nbtsc.org/
does a decent job of giving an idea. I'm not sure how I'd do
there (if I were to become under 18 again), but it is neat
to hear about.

Welcome!

While I'm babbling:
here are some notes from Starhawk's _truth or dare_
which (at least the first 80 pages) is a good antidote to
what Jensen leaves his reader with-

Also (Sandrine :) ) Starhawk takes issue with "you create
your own reality"

p 75 "Creating your own reality" is a New Age watchword, but
many of those who espouse it really mean "take the best of
what the system has to offer for yourself"--an option open
only to a few of the more privileged among us. But to
actually change the terms of reality itself, to generate new
systems based on different values, is a far more demanding,
dangerous, and revolutionary task.

p 79 Awareness is the beginning of all resistance

p 82
When we rebel without challenging the framework of reality
the system has constructed, we remain trapped. Our choices
are predetermined for us.

p 83 for the choices the system presents us with inevitably
increase the system's control

p 83 to defy reality is not the same as to change it

p 84 resistance embodies a reality incongruent with that of
domination

p 86 survival - itself an act of ultimate resistance

p 86 to resist is to engage reality, to act.

Awareness, emotions, are not enough.

For acts of resistance against systems that destroy us are
ultimately acts of survival, creation, and nurture.

p 86 "I don't want to focus energy on resistance, on the
negative."

resistance is the refusal to be negated by systems of
control.
