Colombian guerrillas and paramilitary fighters engaged in a
gunfight
over control of the cocaine trade in western Choco province, leaving at
least 75 fighters dead, El Tiempo reported.
Paramilitary members, who form part of the demobilized Bloque Pacífico,
were attacked by guerrillas from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of
Colombia, the National Liberation Army and the Guevarista Revolutionary
Army, El Tiempo cited Blanca Inés Marín, mayor of San Jose del Palmar,
as saying.
President
Alvaro Uribe’s government is fighting to end a four- decade
drug-financed war that pits insurgents against paramilitaries.
