4000 km on a Birdy: msg#00005culture.bicycle.birdybike.general
Dear Peter, I hope you don't mind that I am posting this on the new Birdy Discussion Board as well as sending it to you directly; I didn't see your name yet among the members who have joined the discussion. Mike Hessey has an excellent Birdy Information web page (in English) at http://www.whooper.demon.co.uk/birdy/ He has a new link there, under "comments" : Bernd Holzum in Germany owns a Birdy Red. You can find his comments on the web at http://www.netcologne.de/~nc-holzumbe/ Bernd's site looks to be quite interesting but I can't read a word of it! Anyway, Bernd put a link in to YOUR web page -- http://members.aol.com/pdeleuw/Birdy.html And that is how I found your page Peter! I shouldn't really have said that I couldn't read a word of your page.... I typed your URL into http://babelfish.altavista.digital.com/ and told it to translate from German to English. Machine translations can be amusing ;) Yes, I have heard that the belt drive Birdys had their limitations. They were never sold here in the US. We only have two models sold here. A Metallic Green 7 speed, and the Silver (Elox) 3x7. Perhaps you could post to the board a summary of mechanical problems, modifications, and other Birdy wisdom you have accumulated in all those miles (km)! I certainly agree with your conclusion that the Birdy is a "very, very good bike" -- I have three of them! Bob (near San Francisco) Dear Bob, I am surprised, you found my Birdy page! Of course, you are interested in an english page. But I think, I won't translate it in the near future. I describe my expierience with my birdy green while 4.000 km since november of 1996. I had troubles with the belt drive and with the spokes. Now I have changed to a chain drive without using the kit offered by Riese & Müller. It was too expensive (280 DM). By the way, I was not always happy with the service from R & M. But for all that: The birdy is a very, very good bike, I like to ride it! I have suscribed your discussion group to see, what's going on there! Thank you for the invitation, Peter ------------------------------------------------------------------------ eGroup home: http://www.eGroups.com/group/birdybike http://www.eGroups.com - Simplifying group communications
