Sailor introduction: msg#01325culture.backpacking.light
Hi, I posted a couple of items, and based on Jim's replies, I thought a more complete intro might be in order. I am 50, North Carolina based, and have a boat called a Sun Cat, a 17 foot boat with a small cabin. I usually daysail, but also do some overnighters. My boat just uses battery-powered things like lights, etc. It came with a butan stove that now doesn't light. I don't really know what is wrong. I never really used it. I came to the boat with a 25 year old Peak 1 that uses Coleman fuel. What I usually do is take it up to a dock and heat water for coffee or boil in bag meals... Last time out, I was at anchor, and I took the stove out to cockpit for heating water for coffee...worked fine, and yet I was glad it wasn't windy or stormy... That got me thinking of boom-tents and different ways to heat the water. Came here, saw a file about a camping tarp; Jim called my attention to some key differences in camping use and sailboat use...I do tent camp a lot, and have some blue poly tarps...none has the mosquito mesh, and most of the time, I don't need it BUT... Also saw something about esbit stoves...that seems to have potential. I wonder how hot it gets underneath the stove...that could be an area I need to look at for cockpit use... Well, that is all I can think of for now...thanks for reading... |
