I'm leaning toward the > non epoxy types because of building/drying time. I built the Don Johnston stoves. The drying time is (according to the JB Weld instructions) 15 hours. This was probably the *least* problematic part of the construction. I built my stoves (within the last few days, actually) in a very short period of time (despite a leisurely pace) once I had all the materials gathered. You could put together an evening building session and have the stoves ready to go backpacking the next afternoon. I'd definitely recommend this as a group-type activity, since individual purchases of materials will usually produce a lot more than one person can use. A couple of tin snips will go a long way, one small roll of hardware cloth will do an entire troop's worth of pot stands, and a small roll of aluminum flashing will make a bunch of very durable windscreens. david |
