Re: Cameras: msg#01279culture.backpacking.light
There were two versions of PhotoCD. Standard and PRO Photo CD. Both are still available. Max OUTPUT "decompressed" resolution of PhotoCD is 2k x 3k, with a file size of approximately 18 MB. These files are not (far as I know) scanned IN at that resolution. I believe they are scanned in at 1.3 megapixel and interpolated to the other resolution values, both higher and lower. As you probably noticed, a five-resolution scan is heavily compressed and takes up about 4.5 MB on a CD. PRO Photo CD is a mixed bag and a special case, in essence. Most PRO Photo CD's are produced on an individual scan basis, much as you would do with any large-format film scanner. Most photofinishers advertising scans on CD are not referring to PRO photo CD. Obviously, you can get any custom scan put onto a CD (assuming it will fit). david --- In BackpackingLight-F5Bj5G+ccuY@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, Alex Tweedly <alex@xxxx> wrote: > At 00:59 27/09/2002 +0000, dspellman2002 wrote: > >35mm film has a data equivalent of about 22-24 megapixels (which would > >produce a file of around 70 megabytes).
