Re: Re: Updating Pack (was Tacoma Tarp): msg#01267culture.backpacking.light
I have always been paranoid about having inadequate gear. I always over do it just a little as a "buffer" The P-1 would be at it's limit with food ad water according to Brian at ULA. I don't like using anything at it's limit. That's the caver in me. I am going from a Bora 80 to the P-2 which is a huge weight difference. At the same time it won't be much of a reduction, if any,to carrying capacity or durability. I feel that having the one stay will actually increase durability by spreading out the load a little. Plus it gives me a little room to play with, if I need to stay out longer without a resupply, or I want to carry a couple of extra items. That wouldn't be possible if I stayed at the very edge of carrying capacity. As a matter of fact one Inova LED might be sufficient for most of y'all, but again, the caver in me says "no, you need a backup light". So I'll go the 'heavy" route and carry two. But that still beats the PT headlamp I was carrying until today. I'm getting lighter by the day and one day I might have wished that I got the P-1 but I kinda doubt it. That's just my thoughts ----- Original Message ----- From: amytys To: BackpackingLight-hHKSG33TihhbjbujkaE4pw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, September 27, 2002 1:43 PM Subject: [BackpackingLight] Re: Updating Pack (was Tacoma Tarp) --- In BackpackingLight-F5Bj5G+ccuY@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, "Jimmy" <paintbox@xxxx> wrote: > I plan on hiking the Georgia section of the AT in November. > My packweight with my current tent is 16.5 lbs without food and > water. The P-1 is the same size as the P-2, I believe. It also now has options, as does the P-2, to support a top lid pocket. Since you have a light load, and the P-2 weighs 20oz more, I'm confused by your pack choice. Yahoo!
