RayOVac/Isidore: msg#01243

Subject: RayOVac/Isidore

This is a gear performance report on the Ray-O-Vac headlamp, brought
to our attention by Coosa last week. I scooped up the last one,
lonely little thing, laying on the floor in the Perkins Road Wal-
mart, Baton Rouge, and gave it a home. It was
unclaimed/overlooked/rejected by Isidore-fearful shoppers looking for
big strength lights. I don't remember the price. The receipt got wet
and fell apart. I love camping-releated gadgets, especially
flashlights, lanterns, stoves.

Testing conditions: Put the batteries in while drinking wine and
eating a hamburger in a bar Wednesday night in downtown Baton Rouge.
3 AAA's a snap to put in. Flashed at waiter and bartender, who
pretended not to be mad. Roommate threatened to smack me if I aimed
it at her one more time. Put it on my head, left it there while I
ate, just in case the power went out. It never did.

Later in the evening, walked dog in rain, with the red light on.
Didn't need it at all because of street lights, but I wanted to test
waterproofness and also spook neighborhood kids. It's very
waterproof, the neighborhood kids were all inside, will try something
in that regard Halloween.

Stayed up watching for the storm, which was just rain where I live,
and a few wind gusts. Decided to test light in more challenging
conditions, inside of very dark house. Roommate asleep. Walked
through her office and into her bedroom with red light on. Could see
very well! Was under mistaken assumption red light would not wake her
up. It did, she was not happy and over-reacted a tad. I went back
into my part of the house, and kept the light near me in case the
power went out. It never did, but when it eventually does, this
little light will be the first thing I reach for. Marsanne
