Re: PUR Hiker follow-up

I posted a reply to this earlier, but got an error when I sent and 
don't see it showing up so trying again...

After seeing several posters, like Dave, state that Katadyn is 
replacing PUR filters with their own, I got curious. REI is having a 
good sale on now, I thought about taking advantage of it, but I 
wondered whether it was on sale because they were dropping the 
product and supplies for it.

I called PUR, followed their menus, and eventually got to a message 
giving me a new number for their outdoor products. I called it: 1 800 
755 6701. I chatted with Ross (I think) about their filters.

He confirmed they dropped the Voyager filter (element fits in Hiker 
model, adds anti-viral chemical treatment) 2.5 years ago and have no 
plans to reintroduce it.

He says Katadyn has no plans for discontinuing the Hiker model, which 
is PUR's top-selling filter. It may undergo a name change at some 
point, but the product will remain substantially unchanged. 
Replacement filters will continue to be made for it.

He was unaware of any program to exchange PUR filters for Katadyn 
filters. I would be interested in seeing a website or phone number 
with information on such an exchange program, as the manufacturer 
seems to be unaware that it exists.
