Re: Advice Needed for AT in CT: msg#00071culture.backpacking.light
Hello: I've used those parking lots a couple times this year for day hikes and there have usually been a couple of out-of-state cars and no visible signs of vandalism. The road is a fairly busy road, but the lots are somewhat screened from the road by trees/brush. The lot at the AT crossing is a mile or so north of town and is pretty small (5-6 cars). The lot at the Undermountain Trail is 4-5 miles (?) further north of town and can hold 12-15 cars. I would suggest calling the Salisbury Police Department and ask them if there has been vandalism at those spots and if so, do they have any suggestions for overnight parking. The town itself is only a few blocks long and there are some Inns and a library which might permit (or unknowingly tolerate) an out of state car for a few days. The Connecticut portion of the AT is pretty and not too tough. Enjoy it and good luck!
