I don't believe that Ray has advocated walking faster, just lighter 
and more comfortably.  If other hikers use his methods to walk
faster, that's not Ray's fault.  Personally, if it wasn't for 
lightweight equipment and techniques, I probably wouldn't be out
there at all because heavy takes all the fun out of it.
