Thanks for the idea. Am I right in assuming that a cagoule comes down to about
knee level? If so this sounds great for rain but a bit cumbersome when you use
it just as a wind shell, when normal jacket length would be more convenient.

How about making the bottom part removable (like the legs on covertible pants).

My thinking is that -- with the open bottom and open pit zips -- the cagoule
should ventilate pretty well. With the pit zips closed I can use it to
replace the wind shell that I now carry. The cagoule's longer length should
eliminate the need for rain pants at milder temps.
