George, I wouldn't worry about it. First off, a 20 F bag isn't really a winter bag, esp if its down. That rating doesn't take into account so many factors that the rating just doesn't mean much. I would say that if you reach dewpoint temps, you're good to test this bag - the dampness in the air may make it FEEL cold enough at 45 F that you'll be shivering in the 30 F bag, wishing you were testing the 20 F bag. Due to condensation issues, I've found that bags have difficulty keeping me warm while the same bags, in nice, dry, subfreezing conditions can be acceptable. I guess that what I'm saying is that to adequetly test a 20 F sleeping bag temps do not have to make it down to 20 F. >From a testing perspective, the question becomes "will local conditions be such that a 20 F bag is warranted." You, as a tester, simply need to use the 20 F bag in these conditions, and make sure to notate them well in your reports, in addition to the product's performance.
