That is totally miserable. Often before a longer trip I get 
anticipatory aches, snuffles etc. (not an uncommon phenomenon, 
apparently), but all is well come the day. I've missed the occasional 
day hike through illness, but not a planned backpack in many moons 
Condolences, compadre.
