dialects, baby, dialects.  as the word "English" is drawn from the 
word "England," i'll grant that the Brits speak the mother tongue. But 
i know that even in Great Britain you don't all speak it the same!  And 
typically an Aussie is easy to tell from a Brit, so there's a 
difference there as well.  we're all just speaking permutations of some 
perfect ideal that perhaps the Queen and her ilk speak.  the Queen 
Mother Tongue?  although the royal "we" seems a mite silly.  ;)
