Subject: Application to test Five Ten Insight trail/rock shoes - Jodi

Please review and accept my application to test the Five Ten Insight
Shoe. I have read the Survival guide 1202 and in particular chapter 5
and agree to follow all guidelines within. I have also sent in my
signed agreement.

If selected, I need a 7.5 US Medium or Average woman's size (depends
on how they mark them). Color does not matter.

Personal biographical information

Name – Jodi Cornelius
Age - 43
Gender - Female
Height - 5'3" (1.60m)
Weight - 176 (80kg)
Email address – bpskids@xxxxxxxxx
Location - Derrick City, PA 16727

Backpacking background – I have been backpacking for 3 years now and
before that I car camped quite a bit. I consider myself a little more
experienced in backpacking and am on my way towards becoming a
lightweight packer. I tend to use a Hennessey Hammock since my only
tent is a bivy tent. I prefer the hammock to a tent as the hammock
leaves me swinging gently in the breeze with no hard spot from rocks
on the ground. Nor do I need to dig troughs for my hips and shoulders
(side sleeper) so I can practice LNT (Leave No Trace) much better.

Test Plan – I will be wearing these shoes regularly. I will be
wearing them to work (changing once I get there) to help with testing
on slippery pavement and concrete. I have some winter trips planned
also and the terrain ranges from rocky to smooth but these trails will
be covered (depending on when the test starts) with leaves both dry
and wet, and later in the test, with snow and ice. I will be testing
for the following:

Fit – how well do they fit? If they are a little snug, do they
stretch without much difficulty? Are they built for socks? If so,
how thick a sock can I wear before my feet feel pinched? Can I wear
them sockless? If so, do they make my feet sweat? If they do, is
there an odor control in them? If there is no odor control, is there
room to use an insole that has odor control? Is there arch support?
Too much/too little? (I realize this is a personal preference thing)

Cleaning – How easy are they to clean? Do they clean with just a
brushing off of dried mud/dirt? Is the nubuk easily cleaned? Can the
nubuk leather upper be treated with something like "Camp Dry" to help
with water resistance?

Traction – How well does the tread grip wet rocks? Do they give me
good traction crossing creeks with ice covered rocks? How about
walking on wet leaves?? Up and down banks? Banks covered with
snow/ice or leaves? Do the treads get packed with dirt and then lose
traction? If they get packed with dirt, how easy are they to "knock"
the dirt loose?

Wetness - If they get wet, how quickly do they dry? Do they dry on my
feet or do I need to take them off to let them dry? Do they dry
overnight when I'm out hiking?

According to the test call "The outsole has flex screws that follow
metarsal heads through the forefoot and also has a flex screw that
runs from heel to toe that allows the sole to articulate with your
foot. The design of the sole draws from rock climbing in the way it
wraps around the midsole and the lugs provide good dirt penetration,
but also great traction and friction." Do these screws cause any
discomfort? Can you feel them through the sole/shoe? If not, do they
start coming through the shoe as the shoe wears?

I haven't ever worn trail shoes on the trail but have wanted to go to
a lighter shoe than my hiking boots. At 1.9 lbs that's a LOT lighter
than my current hiking boot. And since I lost weight, I think my
ankles could handle not having the "extra" support that the boots
supply. I wear a low sneaker for work and don't have any ankle
problems and feel that the trail shoe will be a nice change.

Our temperatures during this test time are as follows:

Average temperature of September: 57°F/14 C. Average high temperature:
69°F/21 C. Average low temperature: 45°F/7 C with dips into the low
20s F/-7 C.

Average temperature of October: 47°F/8 C. Average high temperature:
69°F/21 C. Average low temperature: 45°F/7 C with dips into the low
teens F/-12 C.

Average temperature of November: 37°F/3 C. Average high temperature:
46°F/8 C. Average low temperature: 28°F/-2 C with dips into the low
teens F/-12 C.

Average temperature of December: 26°F/-3 C. Average high temperature:
34°F/1 C. Average low temperature: 18°F/-2 C with dips into as low as
-10 F/-23 C.

Average temperature of January: 26°F/-3 C. Average high temperature:
34°F/1 C. Average low temperature: 18°F/-2 C with dips into as low as
-10 F/-23 C.

Elevation: 1200.0 ft to 2500.0 ft/366 m to 762 m

Testing conditions

I will be testing this product in the mountains of NW PA where the
terrain will range from flat and smooth going to inclines with brushy
trails, to rocky trails, water crossings, and some maintained trails.
The temperatures, depending on the arrival date of the product, will
range from current temperatures in the 70s F/20s C to as low as -10
F/-23 C, possibly lower, depending on our winter. The weather will
range from dry, to rain, snow, and wet, heavy snow yes, there is a
difference) with the possible ice storm.

I have some trips planned on some local trails and in the woods behind
my house (one of the perks of living in the boonies – I got 300 plus
acres to hike in ;-) and feel I could give these shoes a good test.

Thank you for considering me for this test. I look forward to a
positive response 
