APPLICATION TO TEST Cutter Advanced Insect Repellent Lynne Durham

Please accept my application for the privilege of testing Cutter Advanced Insect Repellent. I have read Chapter Five of the BackpackGearTest Survival Guide version 1202 and agree to follow all requirements. My signed Tester Agreement is on file. Additionally, I am not currently serving a prison sentence, nor am I committed to a mental institution (although I have been known to call my home a loony bin). I have, however, hiked and car camped all of my life, mostly in the relative flatlands of the lower and upper peninsulas of Michigan, but also in areas east of the Continental Divide, such as South Dakota, New England, Kentucky, Florida, Ohio, Indiana, and more. I put in extensive mileage dayhiking and trail running with a pack, as I train for ultramarathons and adventure racing events. I have competed in both sprint- and expedition-length adventure races and gone as far as the 50-mile distance in ultramarathoning. I have dayhiked from rim to rim in the Grand Canyon and will do so again in October. I love to be outdoors and I am outside for a minimum of an hour daily each weekday, whether I am in the city, at the beach or in the woods. I also spend most of the weekend outdoors playing, either hiking, trail running, bicycling, backpacking, or paddling. In Michigan's "buggy" seasons, I tend to use 100% DEET as my insect repellent of choice. I've often been frustrated by DEET's limitations (melting a sports-watch face; not usable on technical fabrics) and safety profile; however, I've found it to be the most effective product for avoiding insect bites. ************* TEST PLAN: ACTIVITIES, LOCATIONS AND CONDITIONS ************* If chosen to test Cutter Advanced Insect Repellent, it will see extensive usage because I spend so much time outside. However, it should also be noted that we are approaching the end of Michigan's "buggy" season. I do have some trips to other areas planned, but I am not sure of their bug status at the times I will be in these areas. During this time period, I currently have planned multi-day trips to central Kentucky, the Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce. Additionally, a late fall trip to Alabama and Tennessee is currently under consideration. The repellent may be tested in a variety of conditions: - Hot, humid conditions (high 80s F [30+ C]) - Sandy beaches - Lunch-time runs - Long (28+ miles [45+ K]) dayhikes or trail runs in terrain ranging from wide-open meadow to swampy areas to well-shaded forest - Four-hour trail maintenance trips in new-growth wooded area - Activity ranging from short bursts of intense anaerobic activity to hours-long stretches of moderate aerobic activity and hours-long stretches of easy aerobic activity ************* TEST PLAN: QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWERED ************* Function: - How well does Cutter Advanced repel mosquitoes?
