More later! > > > > ~*~ tink > > *****the communication aspects are important because what the AUTISTICS want and choose , feel and think and ultimately decide for themselves are important. do they want to be in institutions or group homes or do they want to be members of society and their communities? that is the question. they are more than able to think and decide for themselves what they need and want "for themselves". its getting them to 'express' it and getting peoples 'hearing' themselves that gets in the way. we will establish communications so they can voice their desires and we will defend their decisions. ther'es enough peoples out there deciding whats best for them. there's enough peoples ignoring them as well. i think its time already someone asked them what they want and need and DEFEND their choices. it is a change of mindset. more like they will need assistance but not be dependant. i will work on things now to ensure that my daughter will have the options available for herself when we get to that point. so that ultimately whether she will be in a group home or institution or be a mamber of society and her community we be her deciosion. not yours, not mine nor anyone elses. think for a moment if you sudenly had a stroke. and became very limited. you suddenly cant talk. barely move. and people had to decide what to do with you. now, would you want peoples to establish some form of communication so you can be participatory in the decision of whether you be put in a nursing home, or institution or live independantly with aide or assistance maybe with your family right next door or acroos the street... or just leave someone else to make that decision for you without any input from you. what would you decide? what do you think my child would decide? that's important. because with our kids what you want and what you think for them is never as important as to listen to what they want and think should be done for themselves. you will not be advocating for them. but assisting them to advocate for themselves...
