Interesting monitor calibration discovery department: msg#00189colorsync-users
It's not something like discovering the cure to cancer but it's very interesting, nevertheless, to see how the EyeOnePro, left hung to the screen for a prolonged period of time, can make all the difference in monitor calibration. Today I calibrated my CG21 with basIColor Display 4.1.7. At some point, I figured I'd better get the update, now at 4.1.12. So I downloaded and installed the update, and ran the calibration again. With 4.1.7, I got an average of 0.66 dE94 and a max of 2.something. I thought it was good but then I was curious, of course, to see how better or worse I'd fare with 4.1.12? So I launched the calibration under 4.1.12 and went for dinner. Same settings as before in 4.1.7. When I came back, the EyeOnePro was still hung obediently to the display, I noticed -- I had completely forgot about it. So, I saved the newly created profile and fired up the validation, as a curiosity. The software gave me a decent 0.8 dE94 average this time but a max of 5.6 -- ooh? What could have happened? I looked at where the largest deviation occurred and it was in the shadows. Honestly, I wasn't quite sure what to make of it at that point, so I fired up the calibration and profiling again, and then fired up the validation again: bingo! This time, I got a very honourable 0.26 dE94 with a max of 0.64, this can't be bad, can it? So the verdict is in: for the utmost quality in calibration and profiling with the EyeOnePro, in direct contact with the screen, give it ample time to warm up to the display. Exactly along the line of IDEAlliance monitor calibration certification routine, in fact. Did the Fogra Softproofing Handbook covers this aspect of monitor metrology with the EyeOnePro? I got to read again... Roger _______________________________________________ Do not post admin requests to the list. They will be ignored.
