Subject: Re: How to define a global order of tools in Sakai

I am sure that we will want to put this in quite soon but it won't make 2.2 :(

So I would take a look at the patches as John suggests. Luckily Charon is pretty straightforward to work in so if you have to keep the patches for a little while it won't be too bad..

But don't start patching Charon until 2.2 is out or you might have to do it twice.

At present there's no way to do that that I know of, other than putting those tools in a different site that only instructors have access to. There is a REQ-47 out there to allow control of the left hand menu items so that they could be visible to certain roles - permission controlled. I think there was a recent thread about it in sakai-dev. Nuno has done something for his installation - see his post - Nuno Fernandes <nuno@xxxxxx> (2006-03-10 19:21:24 GMT)

Thanks John/Vivie/Jon.

A follow-up question: we also want to hide some tools from students, but make them available to the instructors, how can we do that?

thanks,
Lydia
