Hmm... can you post the Stacktrace?

caller is an instance of the XmlRpcCaller, I suppose you're using the 
ApacheXmlRpcCaller implementation (the one that is shipped with JOGI).
This can't really be null, but maybe some reference inside it is null.
Could you step this through with a debugger to see what happens?

I'm wondering... what causes this to happen? There's no updateJob method 
in the Person class; does this happen when you call something else? 
(Sorry if that's a bad question, I'm a bit rusty on this stuff).
