If its sure that this isn't available in the API, someone should file 
an enh-request in Bugzilla:

One should not use XML-RPC for downloading/uploading documents but a 
simple GET/PUT on ZideStore. Should be much faster. (just use XML-RPC 
to find the project info, then construct the proper ZideStore URL)
