Update: Finally the HTTP connection seems to work as required, you need 
to set the HTTP protocol to 1.0 to avoid the expect, like that:

           (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(destination);
      webRequest.Credentials = credentials;
      webRequest.PreAuthenticate = true;
      webRequest.ProtocolVersion = HttpVersion.Version10;

I didn't try any XML-RPC client so far, but basic authentication seems 
just fine.
