Which it does. (if not, it is a major bug in the libxml2 SAX driver)

But the problem does not come from XML, but from PostgreSQL:

I would guess that all this is unrelated to XML-RPC and that the 
PostgreSQL database charset is not properly configured.

Walter: do Umlauts work for you in the Web interface?
