It does, I remember the issue. I think the solution is to set the 
"encoding" from "ascii" to "utf-8" in /usr/lib/pythonXXX/site.py.

BTW: I wonder whether the xmlrpc lib coming with Python 2.3 is finally 
able to authenticate using HTTP?
