Custom attribute controls at creation

Hi group,

I want to perform on creation page a complex validation on a custom 
attribute(Wbetop 5.3). For example a custom attribute which a user 
input has to be unique in the repository, or a custom attribute has to 
be consistent with current folder path ...
I try to do it with a validator tag but I think it is not possible to 
create a validator for a docbase attribute, is it right ?
I suppose I have to write a javascript on "Finish" button to execute a 
java class which prevent to finished create operation while the user 
input the good value.
There are other ways to do it ?
