You need to check the Release Notes of the client you are interested in.

Webtop 5.3 RN says: 
Cross Product Dependencies
You may have to install some of the products listed in Table 2-5, page
22 on separate
host or client machines due to differences in the DFC versions included
with those
products. Before installing a product, check the product's Installation
Guide for supported
installation configurations.

definately all the clients of 5.2 are supported by 5.3 content server,
but only thing is you will miss all the newly added features of newer
version clients
