You can't just do away with either of the two fields - the best you might do is to add in an automatic action that sets a user's username to their email address whenever the address is set or changed. You would do this by creating an auditor which watches the user class for create or set operations, and does the fiddling. You would also want to remove the username field from the user.item template. See the customisation doc for info about both of these things. Richard
