This is precisely why an application like Mantis should never rely on a
third-party ASP service like Gravatar, to leverage extra functionality
within the code. When/if it goes down or Gravatar retires its services,
Mantis now loses a feature that users have probably learned to rely
upon. 

It may be "cute", but I'd strongly recommend against tying mantis to the
availability of another service.
