I am booting with Smart BootManager 3.7 release 1 from a floppy disk
and trying to then boot from a CD (first the Linux From Scratch
LiveCD, then the SuSE 9.3 Installation CD).
My machine is an IBM Aptiva 2161-C8F, a Pentium MMX 166 MHZ, with
64MB RAM, 3249MB & 341MB Hard Disks and a Hitachi CDR-8130 CD-ROM
Drive.
Booting with the btmgr floppy disk brings up a menu including the CD-
ROM Drive. I can select the CD-ROM Drive and booting into Linux
proceeds a fair ways when either the Linux From Scratch LiveCD or the
SuSE 9.3 Installation CD has been placed in the CD-ROM Drive.
However, with both CD's, the boot process gets to a point where it
needs to locate the installation CD, and in both cases it cannot
proceed because it cannot locate the proper CD. It appears that the
CD-ROM Drive is located (CD-ROM Drive light flashes) but the CD is
not recognized to be the correct CD.
I believed I did not need to set the I/O Ports for the CD-ROM Drive
because it was found and displayed by btmgr on the boot menu, and the
CD is read as the boot process begins in both cases. Is my
assumption correct?
Any suggestions why the CD is not recognized as the CD the boot
process is trying to locate for both cases?
SuSE 9.3 displays the message: "Could not find the SUSE Linux
Installation CD."
A portion of the output of the boot process for the LFS LiveCD is
below concluding with: "I couldn't find an LFS LiveCD in any drive!!"
Thanks,
