I prefer dongles with a chip from CSR, but the Broadcom based works also
fine. Don't take dongles with KC or Telencomm chips, because the one
that I have seen so far are buggy and don't conform to the Bluetooth
spec. If you plan to buy a CSR based dongle make sure that you get one
with HCI 16.4 firmware (or greater).

Hi Marcel and list,

Thank you for the links! I've got my mind set on a MSI dongle [1], which I'll be using mostly for connection between my PC and my cell phone (Ericsson T68i).

Would that suffice?

Best regards

Re: Which dongle / chipset?

Hi, Marcel   this should be working fine and people reported that the HCI firmware of   MSI and TDK dongles can be updated through their Windows software.   Do you have a bit more detail  information regarding firmware upgrade for MSI  ?   If any, please let us know.   I actually checked Windows software came with MSI P2P Tranceiving Key,   but could not find the upgrade feature in the software.     We also contacted MSI ( branch office in Japan) and they told us that   they (probably....) don't provide the function.   They are now escalating the question to the MSI HQ in Taiwan and   more information from you will be good for us to push them.   thanks Taka   Hi Tonni, > > you should also check > > > >     http://www.holtmann.org/linux/bluetooth/features.html > >     http://www.holtmann.org/linux/bluetooth/csr.html > > > > I prefer dongles with a chip from CSR, but the Broadcom based works also > > fine.
