Ten years ago the Washington, DC-based 50 Years is Enough Network was
founded on the 50th anniversary of the World Bank.  The first public
event held by 50 Years was a conference at the University of Vermont
in 1994.  The 50 Years is Enough Network has been opposing the
devastating policies of the World Bank relentlessly for the past ten
years. To commemorate this, a speaking engagement is being organized
on March 25, 2004 and a party-fundraiser on the 26th.

On Thursday, March 25 at 7 pm, Njoki Njehu, Director of the 50 Years
is Enough Network; Dennis Brutus, South African poet; Anthony Arnove,
editor of Iraq Under Siege: The Deadly Impact of Sanctions and War
(South End Press) and Terrorism and War, a collection of new
interviews with Howard Zinn (Seven Stories Press) and Soren Ambrose,
Senior Policy Analyst for the 50 Years is Enough Network will speak
at UVM's CC Theatre. The March 25 event, entitled "The World Bank,
Globalization and the Iraq War,"  is free and open to the public.

On Friday, March 26 from 7:30 to 10 pm a "Retire The World Bank @ 60
Party and Fundraiser" will be held at the Rose Street Art Coop, 78
Rose Street, Burlington.  Please join 50 Years director Njoki Njehu,
Dennis Brutus, South African poet, and Soren Ambrose, 50 Years is
Enough Senior Policy Analyst for refreshments, music and an art and
photo exhibit.    Music will be provided by Ethan Miller and others.
The current exhibit includes Orin Langelle's latest photographs
relating to economic globalization and posters from the project
"Resistant Strains" produced 10 years ago for the 50th anniversary of
the World Bank.  Proceeds to benefit the 50 Years is Enough Network
and the mobilization against the World Bank in Washington, DC in
April.
