Subject: [Left Hook] anniversary
My neighbor brought home a woman one night, and told her he was too drunk to
drive her home. Maybe it worked on other women, but it did not work on her.
She knocked on my door and asked me to drive her home. I did, and we talked.
I was a business man at the time, and held business beliefs. Everytime I saw
her afterwords she stook out her tongue at me. Then I went to college, and
we realized we had similar politics and beliefs. We became friends. In our
last conversation, she asked me to join her on a trip to Palestine to help
the International Solidarity Movement. I did not go.
It is rare that I miss an OMJP (olympia movement for justice and peace)
meeting, an organization that Rachel was dedicated to. We are the lead
sponsor of the upcoming MAR 20 rally in Olympia. It would take twenty more
of me to replace Rachel in this organization. Rachel Corrie is the reason
why I have dedicated myself to social justice.
A year ago today, Rachel Corrie was murdered, and I lost a friend, the world
lost a hero.
