This is the output I get from file:

foobar.wav: RIFF (little-endian) data, WAVE audio, MPEG Layer 3, stereo 16000 Hz

You can run mpg321 to dump the files to wav, like this:

mpg321 -w somefile.wav somefile.mp3

It isn't included with Fedora Core 4 (for stupid patent reasons) -- but you can get it in yum by adding the livna repository (google it).

Running 'sox -h' it seems that mp3 support is enabled.
