Subject: XMMS plugin maintainer - no response

Hi folks,

its time we start using this mailing list more often, as using webboards
to discuss things like this can be cumbersome IMO.

Frank is currently looking at MPC again, and he was requesting help from
us on a couple of issues :

*1. XMMS Plugin*

As long as foobar2000 has not been ported to Linux, its still his
preferred choice for audio playback on Linux, and he is obviously
planning to do development and audio testing with it. Therefore its
necessary that someone who is versed enough with MPC, XMMS and Linux
cares about the plugin. If Frank has to do it himself, his precious time
will be spent on maintaining the plugin, instead of improving the codec.
This cant be in our interest, so i am herewith trying to encourage you
to talk to any developer you know, who fits in the above mentioned
skills range.

*2. Samples Page*

Frank had the idea that a samples download page has to be created, so
that people are all using the same audio samples when conducting
listening tests. A great idea IMO, and i am checking with one of our
team members who has a nice server with 15 GB reserved for us, connected
with a T3 and max . 80 GB/month. I hope he will agree to use his server
for this purpose, although i dont expect him to allow that the link gets
spread publically. Its maybe a good idea to only have torrents seeded
publically ( i can do this if you want, Azureus can easily handle 100
seeds at the same time and we also have a tracker we can use for that )
and to reserve the download page to trusted members only, from who we
know they actively participate in listening tests.

*3. SV8 alpha encoder listening test*

Frank stated more than once that he was disappointed that nobody took
the time to actively test his sample SV8 encoder that time when he
published it. I will ask Frank to make a new release of it soon, and we
should ask Case to make a fb2k encoder plugin from it so we can start
testing.

You all did a great contribution to MPC with the donation for Frank's
new PC, now lets start to become *active MPC team members* instead of
just lemmings waiting for the next rain. CiTay should be an example for
all of you, he did an incredible job with the organisation of the
donation process, and can be called 'saviour of MPC' now because of this
;) .....

Christian

P.S. It would actually be nice if anybody actually replied to this
email, and to the mailing list ...... :sigh: ....
